Panel To Probe Claims Sri Tanjung Reps Has Native Certificate

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- The Local Government and Housing Ministry will set up a special committee to investigate the claims by Sekong assemblyman Datuk Samsudin Yahya that Sri Tanjung assemblyman Jimmy Wong  (picture) had obtained a native certificate allegedly in a dubious manner.

Its minister Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor said the committee, to be chaired by the ministry's permanent secretary, would comprise representatives of relevant agencies.

"The ministry feels that the ownerhsip of native certificate is a serious issue," he said in his winding up speech for his ministry at the state legislative assembly here on Thursday.

Hajiji said the ministry would also investigate Samsudin's claim that Wong had erected chain link fence and concrete store at an open space in Taman Kafar, Jalan Sin On in Tawau.

"I wish to remind that encroaching into open space is against the law," he said.
